Brief 15 // DFGA // Idea & Concept

For the yearbook it was clear that the concept needed to based around the idea of a narrative or story telling as this is the basis to all the students work throughout the course. It also needs to show that the course is multidisciplinary - there is a lot of variety throughout the year group and thats needs to be a main focus of the book - showcasing the students work.

I came up with some ideas that I could use for the yearbook. They are quite similar, but each one slightly differs.

1.
Pixel based icons for each type of work done within the year.

Split into categories put in chronic logical order - referring to timeline of a story.

“Digitally ever after”

2.
Narrative - telling the story of something. Getting from A to B.

Represent this within the year book by showing the timeline of a student and / or project on a timeline.

3.
Year group broke down into categories of what type of work they do.

Each student has a double page spread to tell their story. Emphasis on the spoken word.

Use simple small elements within the design to represent the idea of a narrative / timeline.

Final Idea
I have decided to go with the third idea, thinking about using the spoken word as a main factor throughout the yearbook. I think getting the opinions of the students who have been on the course is a great thing to read throughout a yearbook. Also having an emphasis on the double spread for each student and seeing this as there own 'space' to showcase their own work and show what the course offers.

The idea of a narrative still works through the book, as the students words creates a narrative of there own journey through the time on the course.
