Brief 1 // imprint // Existing Brands

As part of my research i wanted to look into existing brands to see how they have branded themselves in contrast to how i want to brand my own publishing company.

This is just a small range of some of the publishing existing brands out there today, as an overall sense of these i think they are all quite dated and use serif typefaces which give off this same sense of a dated feel. There are some which are 'okay' for example the penguin logo is great, this is such a recognisable logo for the publishing world and is used in many ways. There are some others which have good logos for instance the black jacket and steidl logos are interesting, but i still feel there could be much more done towards it. 

I think this helps reinstate my brief of creating a contemporary publishing identity, it needs to be done and the use of typography and illustration can create an interesting logo to do this.
