Brief 9 // Fedrigoni // Gradient

From the research and organisation of how I will integrate the seasons and colours into the calendar, I thought about creating a gradient which will illustrate the year in colours. This would consist of all colours used to represent each month and give a good interpretation of how the year looks in colour.

In the first instance I used colours which were more of a pastel / dull colour, I felt that these would create a nice smooth gradient as there aren't any harsh or vibrant colours within the colour palette used. But I think that it is too dull and doesn't give a full representation of the year as this makes it look like a pretty dull year.

From this I decided to use more vibrant colours but still in the same spectrum. This I feel, illustrates the year better and gives a better interpretation as even though all the colours are quite vibrant, you see all the colours clearly within the gradient and it defines the year in a better way.

I liked the gradients above, but thought there were too many colours involved and it made the gradient too confusing as alot was going on. By having less colours it will simplify the gradient down, but by using the right colours I can still get the same result and have the same colours involved.

For these gradients I have used slightly duller and more pastel colours compared to the ones above. As you can see form the gradients below it has resulted in the same colours used within it, but it is much simpler and the gradient is much smoother throughout.

Out of the two gradients the one on the right has a smoother finish and works better with the colours, these are slightly different to the other gradient.

To view the gradients at a larger size and see how they work when enlarged, I have applied them to a larger shape and bigger area. This will show how adaptable the gradient is and if it works at a larger scale. It should show any faults within the gradient - ie solid block colours.

This gradient above shows that at any scale it is still works nicely through all the colours in a smooth manor.

These final two have some issues with them as they aren't as smooth throughout the full gradient, there are a couple of colours that stand out and have an area of block colour, this breaks up the gradient and effects the value of it.

I think the idea for this works really well and showing the year in colour through a gradient fits the project, but this isn't concluded in the way I wanted it to look, so some more development on the gradient needs to be done to try and get it as smooth through the colours as possible.
