Brief 10 // LCA Studio Window // Initial window designs

Window Display 1
I wanted to do a design which was more illustrated based, so I took the statement: 'Craftsmanship shows the skills of the designer'. For this I am going to illustrate tools and equipment that are used in a craft based project.

This was the initial illustration I created for the window display, as it was to be laser cut the illustrations needed to be adapted so they could be cut out properly. Also some elements such as the pencil needed more work in the design of them.

After adapting the illustration, this would be the final illustrated element of the window display.

Adding the statement around the illustrations finishes off the window display.

Window Display 2
The second idea was taken from the statement: 'Seize every opportunity'. For this I was again going to use an illustration within the display, this would work on the idea of shaking hands, as if two people have agreed on something.

This is a much simpler illustration and with the statement added to it, it stands out much more than the other I believe.

After showing amber the two design ideas, she said that she wanted it to be type based, not to include any illustration. The statement needed to be more philosophical.

Window Display 3
For the third design I took on board the idea of it being type based and used the statement: 'Positivity is the key to success'. Using just type this would create the window display.

As it is just type based, I wanted to use a typeface that was more interesting and would look good when laser cut and applied to another surface. I think this typeface works well, it is kind of a stencil, but has a lot more design to it and looks nice as a block of text.
