Brief 6 // Life With Energy // Logo

Even thought the information pack that I am designing for this brief is a generic information pack and not one that is focused on a certain brand or supplier, I still felt it was necessary to design a logo for the information as it makes it look like a full package and the audience will see it as a 'real' thing and maybe take more attention to the information within.

The idea of the logo was the communicate the idea of energy, energy efficiency and renewable living. I used the colours of blue, light green and dark green as these are the colours which are known to represent these. From the rough drawings, I have degitalised the logo which I felt would work the best.

As the information pack is about saving energy within the home, this design encompasses that within the design.

Using the energy saving bulb as part of the logo communicates the idea of what the information pack is about right from the outset. I do think this is a little too obvious with the design and would be hard to use within the products of the information pack.

This again is similar to the one above, but with an ordinary light bulb. Again I don't think this is right to use with the information pack as the shape is very awkward to use within the products.

This design is a pure typography logo with the added illustration to communicate better what it is about. The electrical plug simply plays on the idea of appliances and electrical goods which use energy. When anyone thinks of energy within the home, I would say electricity is the first thing to think of.

These variations are playing around with the colour palette to see which one works the best for the final logo. I think that the blue and light green is the best as these two colours fit best together.

Even though I think the idea of this logo is good and I like it, this isn't going to be the one that is used, because the one below is better and provides a better aesthetic for the information pack.

The final logo and the one that is going to be used for the information pack is this logo. This again is using type and a simple illustration that replicates the idea of energy. The two semi-circles represent the idea of recycling and recycling energy. It is the circle of renewable energy sources. It could also be seen as  the run raise which is another renewable source. I mainly see it as the idea of renewable energy resources as these can be recycled within each other, also the recycling symbol came to mind when designing it.

To try and illustrate this further I added smaller lines to the semi-circles to make them look more like arrows and show the recycling symbol more, but I don't think this fits within the logo as well and it outbalances it.

Even on its own without the lines I think people can read into what it communicates and if they don't think of the idea of renewable energy / recycling then the colours used and the name of the information pack communicates what it is.

This is the final logo with the final colours added to it. Using the blue and the two greens signify that it is about efficient energy and recycling within the home.

Also within some of the products of the information pack - introduction booklet and info book, the full logo is quite large and hard to use within the layout of the publications. I have simplified the logo down to just the two semi circles which are placed within a rounded rectangle. This will be placed on the page as a tab and fit from the top of the page. I think this simple form of the logo still fits in with the aesthetics and replicates that of the original logo, but the size and simple design makes it easier to fit within the publication layout and fit with the content of the publications better.
