Brief 6 // Life with Energy // Binding techniques

Before creating the rest of the products for the information pack, I started to think about how they would be bound together and be created into the final products. There are three products which will involve using a bookbinding technique these are:

Information Booklet - After much thinking about the info booklet, there were a few different ways in which I thought about doing this one, the two it came down to were a concertina booklet or a booklet bound by wiro binding. In the end I decided to use the wirobinding, this was because with the concertina booklet, there were the constraints of only printing to a2 format as this was the largest double sided sheet I could print to. Also the concertina booklet doesn't lend itself well to breaking down a book into sections etc.

The wirobinding was the best option for the booklet. This meant the document would be designed just like a normal publication, but the wiro bind will use a wire that created a rounded frame that the pages slide into to create the binding technique. This technique also fits in well with the manual aesthetic that I am using for the information booklet.

Introduction Booklet - The introduction booklet had to fit to an A4 landscape format as this booklet is to sit on top of all the other products in the information pack. As this is the introduction booklet, there isn't a lot of content, it is just there to give a brief overview of the subject. To create this I am going to keep this booklet simple and have the format of it fit to A4 landscape, to create the booklet it will have a gateway fold.

Notepad - The notepad is the way in which the user will calculate how much energy they use within their household. As this is in printed form to create interactivity and hopefully prove how many products use so much energy the notepad will be created like a traditional notepad. I will use the perfect binding technique to bind all the pages of the notepad together.
