Brief 3 // Iconic Cities // Revised Logo

After creating the first logo and looking back at it I realised that I got caught up on the luggage tag and travel idea. The guide communicates this concept well and I think this is enough to communicate that. The logo which I created in the first place, couldn't be used within the guide as an actual logo, it was too big and didn't really fit within the layout of the pages.

Because of this, i went back to the idea of the logo and created something much more simple but still related around the idea of travel. I went back to the idea of pin on the map and incorporated some type within this to create a small but bold logo for the travel guide.

Developing this further, I added the name of the guide to the logo, but as you can see here it doesnt fit with the logo that well and needs more work with the composition of it.

Adding the square around the map pin, creates a distinct difference between the logo and the type. The square also relates to the idea of a map which could also be played on if this is developed further again.

Still working with the same logo above, I tried the logo with lines above and below the type, this doesn't really work, as it takes away the idea of the square logo.

But doubling up on the title of the guide and having it placed around the logo takes it back to being square, but also having each word on each side of the square represents a compass and the north south east west.

Going back to the idea of the map within the square, I tried this idea out by using a thinner stroked line and created roads within the square, with this version i think that it is too detailed, as it takes away from the map pin.

So I looked at simplifying the map down, using the same stroke line this ties in better with the whole logo, but now the map doesnt really look like a map and more of a stained glass window.

The same applies here this simple approach with the map doesnt work to communicate the idea, it looks like a pattern or stained glass window in the background which isn't the intended idea.

For this to work at its best and communicate the idea of travel i think going back to the first idea with the pin placed inside a plain square with the name along the top and bottom.

For use within the actual guide, I will use the map pin on its own as this is simple but bold enough to stand out within the page design of the guide.
