Brief 3 // Iconic Cities // Revised Binding Technique

The original binding method for the publication was to us a elastic bind which weaved through a series of holes and slots down the left hand side of the publication. From further testing this binding method, it doesn't work that well on the A4 format, the elastic bands don't have enough stretch to fit the size of the publication, which makes it buckle, so I needed to think of a new method to bind the publication.

I like the idea of using elastic bands within the binding method, so I experimented with a different technique to bind it together.

As you can see in the images, the binding method uses the elastic bands which threads through two holes in the pages, attached to these is a paperclip which connects to two ends of the elastic bands together to create the bind and keep the pages together. The advantage of using the paperclip is that the bind can be easily detached to add or take away pages within the travel guide.

I think this binding method will work well within the publication, but I'm not sure on the aesthetic that the paperclip will give the paperclip, so I am going to laser cut a wooden replica of the paperclip which will work in the same as it does above, but it will look better and work with the guide much better.
