Brief 3 // Iconic Cities // Maps

The last page in each chapter of the guide is a map of the city, this is a simple illustrated map, that outlines the main roads and routes within the city. On the map key attractions and points of interest are plotted out and highlighted in red.

With the maps I wanted to take an illustrated design route with them, to keep them simple and easy to read. By having the attractions in type laid over the map itself, this again makes it easier for the users to find the attractions they are looking for. The map isn't intended to be a fully detailed version of the city, as this isn't necessary for the guide, this is to give more an overview of where places are located and the distance of them. As you travel to any city you can always pick up a much more detailed map when there if you require one.

Some maps do have more detail i them than others, but I have tried to keep them consistent across the full range of all the maps, this will keep the design of the guide in the same style throughout. The maps all use the same colours, these are in keeping with the colours of the guide, Cyan is used for the rivers / canals, red is used for the attraction names and I have used a 70% black for the roads, this is to make the red stand out more within the maps.

This first map is of Budapest.

This is of Brussels

This is Amsterdam

This is Prague

This is Riga

This is Tallinn

This is Istanbul

This is Vienna

This is Krakow

This is Rome

The maps will be placed as the last page within each city chapter, it will either be set landscape or portrait within the master page design depending on the best orientation for the map.
As you can see in the example below, the map sits well within the design of the page, the design of the map compliments the design of the page, which both fit well together to create a complete design.
