Brief 3 // Iconic Cities // Logo

As the whole concept of this brief is working around the idea of travel tickets and the aesthetic of this resembling the format of the guide. The logo was again to run along with this concept. I wanted the logo to reflect travel within it.

The two ideas that I took from my initial drawings were the idea of using the map pin or working with idea of the old fashion stamps.

The first idea takes the use of a pin on a map. This is a drop pin which is used on digital maps. The idea of the pin has been apart of the maps for a long time, as it was used along with string to measure the length between two places. As this directly relates to travel and other products within travelling.

In these logos the pin has been used to replace the 'o' in iconic. Using different compositions the logo could take on many different layouts.

This second idea still uses the drop pin as the basis of the logo, instead the content is placed within the pin itself. The use of the pin is the same as above. These two logos use a cityscape as part of the logo, this is because the travel guide is based on cities around the world.

Finally the last idea was taken from the initial concept of using the old airport tags as a design aesthetic throughout the guide. With this i looked at stamps which used to be used both in passports on on airport tickets.

For this I took three of the best stamp shapes as this had the most room to place the logo design within. Using aesthetics from the stamps and airport tags, I created the content for the logo. The type is obviously the name of the guide. The airplane refers to travel and the globes are used to represent that it is worldwide, but also five are used in the line, because it is 5* information.

This puts the stamp into context and shows how it could be used within the publication, but on reflection I think using the logo like this isn't right for the travel guide. As the design throughout the guide is based on the travel tags and airport information, i think this needs to be shown on the front cover, but this logo can be used within that design. I also like the idea of creating a stamp with it and being able to stamp it throughout the guide on relevant pages.
