Biography
Founded in 2000 by Ben Parker and Paul Austin, MadeThought is a multi-disciplinary design consultancy that has amassed a diverse and impressive client list, within brand identity, art-direction, packaging, print and interactive design.MadeThought is known for a deliberate and crafted aesthetic, and believes in the strength and purity of rigorous graphic application. With an eclectic range of projects and commissions, their clients have included Adidas, Stella McCartney, Candy & Candy, MTV, Reiss and Nokia.

- We are not defined by a single project. Our portfolio spans a diverse client base throughout the creative, retail and lifestyle industries. Our work across these sectors combines to create an eclectic and rich handwriting with a unique level of proven experience.

Miami Design Museum Promotional Material

Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on some brand new promotional materials designed by MadeThought for Design Miami/Basel 2010. As with previous years, the disparate elements are tied together by means of a diagonal line which, for 2010 takes various forms in the printed material as a strategically placed rip. Yum! ;)

I also took the liberty of featuring some (or rather, the majority) of their older print for Design Miami, for those of you who:

A. Want to see how beautiful everything looks laid out in one gigantic line (as opposed to a singular slideshow experience).

B. Have never heard of MadeThought before. And I’m guessing you’re feeling a little overwhelmed right now. ;)

Design Miami has become the most prominent and meaningful forum for international design, bringing together the most influential designers, collectors, dealers, curators and critics from around the world to further the current design culture.

This prestigious event demanded an identity that would immediately imbue it with a sense of legitimacy and authority. The Design Miami event, which takes place annually is Basel and Miami, operates in a highly charged creative and cultural environment.

Through an international approach of purity, the use of an iconic angled line gives Design Miami a powerful and memorable identifier, which allows rich, creative opportunities and a level of presence across a diverse range of brand applications.

Recent Work
MadeThought: Ten Years Yesterday Exhibition

The exhibition itself is in a small space but it packs punch with cabinets brimful of sumptuous pieces from the last ten years of MadeThought's output. Clients range from Adidas to Stella McCartney to Harrods and many more inbetween and what struck me most was that this was the work of a true collection of graphic designers.

What I mean by that is that there isn't much illustrative design here; this work spoke of the power of good photography, great typography and a detailed knowledge and love for print. There was more foil debossing and diecutting here than you can shake a stick at, but it was used to brilliant effect. Often the debossing was created using a clear foil, or a colour to match the substrate, and then rendered as a pattern to create both texture and rhythm. It was one of those exhibitions that makes you want to run back to your sketchbook and computer to experiment with a hundred different ideas.
