Brief 14 // Design Context Book // Idea & Concept

Idea
For my publication I am going to concentrate on this year  as the content of it. I feel that from the end of second year carrying into this year, I got a real understanding of the type of work I want to create and work within and throughout this year, I feel as though I have pushed that further and become more and more involved in the area of the design that I like the most.

To define this is quite hard, but I like to make and create things. I have the knowledge and skills of a graphic designer, but I like to use these and carry them into creating more physical products. Using my knowledge of print and through experimenting with that this year, it has become more apparent within my work and is something I am enjoying the more I do. I think I am a designer that works both digitally and print based, but fundamentally if its a digital based project I will find some way in creating some sort of print or craft based product. I have found that every brief I have done this year has involved me physically making something - if its a digitally printed publication, I have found an interesting way to bind it.

To create a publication which shows this idea of myself being a graphic design but also a print maker, seems very apt for me and something which is an interesting mix because the two do overlap in many ways.

In essence the publication is going to be a collection of research images, texts, articles, interviews that I have found and looked at for inspiration or information throughout this year. All the content will be things that have helped me develop my own practise and show who I am as a designer.

Concept
The concept of the publication is to communicate who I am as designer. This mainly comes down to the content of the publication, to show the sort of things that inspire me.

The layout of the publication can display this same idea, as having a more free flowing and crafted layout for each page shows the print maker side of me, but by keeping this within a structured grid and using set type sizes it brings in the graphic designer within me.

The publication is going to be printed digitally as 2 copies are needed and I am going to send off for it to be printed, this is to save time in me doing it myself. I may create a more crafted dust cover for the book, dependant on time.
