Brief 9 // Fedrigoni // Idea Development

Developing the idea of the calendar came from using the first idea. I liked how the use of stock and linking it to the seasons of the months within the year. I also think this idea best showcases the paper range of the Woodstock range.

Looking at the calendar in more detail, this shows how the format of the calendar will work and how it will display the information.

Again looking at different formats of how the overall calendar could be place next to each other to take advantage of both the format  and how it can be used within the environment it would be placed in.

From these initial sketches and having an overall idea of how I wanted to the format of the calendar to be, I moved onto looking at how the information would be designed and placed onto the stock.

Working with the format at A7 this gives a small enough calendar that can be used on any sized desk, but also enough room to work with the information needed to display on each stock.

The first design development for the fronts of the calendar displays the information in a large format. This is a simple design but one that stands out which it will do when printed onto each stock. The information is displayed in caps so that it stands out more and is seen from a distance. At the top of the stock there is the information which states which stock from the woodstock range it is.

I have taken the first design layout as a template to test other ways of displaying the information within the available area. With it being a small format, I think this template works best and displays the needed information to the user. With each of the following layouts, slight changes have been made to the design to see if it impacts on the hierarchy of the design and makes other elements of it stand out more than others.

Looking from a different angle, I tried out how the day, date and month could be displayed in a different format / layout. These work just as well but wouldn't fit within the format that I have in mind. This would best fit a landscape format.

But at least now I know that the aesthetic of the designs I have been working around, fit and work best for that format. These have informed the best possible design solution for the calendar and makes the best outcome of the format in use.
