Brief 3 // Iconic Cities // Book Cover and Front cover

The cover of the book is going to be made out thick card, to give it a sturdy outer which will make the publication have a heavier feel to work better when being read. This cover will be created by two duplexed peices of card, which will be blue and red. Throughout the designs of the page inners, the main colours used are blue red and yellow, choosing the blue and red was purely because they will contrast each other well and be aesthetically interesting when used together. The book cover will be a wrap around design, this will be secured be slotting into a slot on the back cover. On the inside cover i will create a pocket the full of the publication, this will be handy for the users to keep bits of information together in one place, it will also make the cover that little bit thicker. On the front of the cover the logo will be placed in the centre, the idea is to have a minimal design that looks highly professional so people will pick it up, but then when they open it, the are presented with the aesthetics of the guide which makes it an interesting read.

insert cover design.

The publication will be stuck onto the front cover wrap, this means the publication will have a second front cover, this is designed with the same style of the title pages to keep a consistent design.

I choose to use the red for the main colours as the stock of the inside of the front cover wrap will be red, this keeps the colours similar within the design and doesnt complicate the colours too much. The design of this second front cover, is very similar to that of the title pages. This has been shortened to 'ICG' which stands for Iconic Cities Guide. I had to keep it to three letters as this is how the airport abbreviations work. At the bottom of the page there is a play on the luggage information that is usually displayed on a ticket, instead of having that information I have replaced it for cities, attractions and maps. This tells the reader that the guide contains information on 10 cities, there is 60 attractions and 10 maps available for them to look at.

The second introduction page is simply an image with type overlaid. This travel guide is classed as the cultural city guide, so the type basically explains what the guide is there to communicate in a short sentence. If this was to be a real company and provide information like this, there could be a range of different types of guides e.g. the romanic getaways or the capital cities. The important factor is that it is always about cities.

From this page the guide then turns to reveal the first city, which carries on the same throughout the publication.
